Davis Freeman has enjoyed a long, varied, and successful career. Known primarily as a portrait and fine art photographer, he has been recognized with numerous awards, television interviews, magazine articles, filmed profiles, exhibitions, workshops, lectures, and arts organization leadership positions. From an extremely difficult childhood with no roadmap forward, but committed to lifelong learning, Davis created a path to success.
During his years as chief staff photographer at the University of Washington, Davis spent years studying and learning best business practices, in preparation for one day opening his own studio. He enjoyed preparing for “the business end of the business” and later taught these subjects at the college level while running his successful photography business. His approach to “selling” creates a win/win for the photographer and the client.
Today, Davis will share his journey of self-discovery. He will touch on the various phases of his career, including how those photos reflect his belief in being inspired by classic art. He will also cover how he approaches and completes the creative process. Not to be overlooked, he will explain how enduring difficulties such as early insecurity, shyness, lack of support and family trauma actually helped to prepare him for a successful career. When this profound love of creating images is your driving force, you will make it happen.
“I am a receiver as much as a creator. The beauty I seek, I find in the interesting plays of light and dark across the topography of my subject.”
